In ancient Rome, the ides was a way to mark dates on the calendar. It was roughly in the middle of the month, but not always the same day. Sometimes it was the 15th, as in March, others it was the 13th, as in April. Let's look at the usage of this term in history ancient and modern and how it affects us.
