Online Weekly Meeting

Spirited Speech Masters meets online every Thursday (excepting institutional holidays) from 12 noon to 1 PM. Visitors are always welcome though only employees of MD Anderson are permitted to join.

Comets and Stars

This is the last week to have a good view of the NeoWise comet. Have you seen it yet? No matter! You still have plenty of time to be a Star in Toastmasters with some new projects and programs coming your way.

Toastmaster of the Day Loni Huff
The Toastmaster is responsible for facilitating the section of the meeting dedicated to prepared speeches. He or she introduces the meeting theme (if applicable) as well as the Ah Counter, Grammarian, and Timer roles.

Prepared Speeches

Speaker 1 Open
Speaker 2 Sally Boyd, DTM
Delivers a prepared speech via webcam; returns control back over to the Toastmaster.

Extemporaneous Speeches

Topics Master Brittney Edwards
Invites a series attendees to deliver 1-2 minute impromptu speeches; turns meeting over to General Evaluator.

Evaluation

General Evaluator Joann Hester
Calls upon the evaluators for each of the prepared speeches to deliver his or her evaluation.
Evaluator 1 Open
Evaluator 2 Loni Huff
Speech Evaluators provide evaluation of a speaker's prepared speech before returning control of the meeting to the General Evaluator.
Timer Douglas Van Camp
Reports upon the time elapsed during each prepared speech, table topic, and evaluation.
Grammarian Open
Monitors usage of the “Word of the Day” and reports upon both skillful and imprecise uses of the English language.
Ah Counter Brittney Edwards
Reports upon the use of filler words (ex. “um”) and repeated “double clutch” words.
